How to Price a Casino Bonus in Dollars

Nobody thinks in multiples. Ask a person to picture 35x and they picture nothing. Ask them to picture C$3,500 in bets on a C$100 bonus and they picture an evening they do not have. Every bonus on this site gets converted from the first form to the second, and this page is the conversion, in full, so you can run it yourself on any offer anywhere.

Step one: find what the multiple attaches to

The multiple is only half the instruction. The other half is the base it multiplies, and there are three common versions.

Bonus only is the friendliest. A C$100 bonus at 30x means C$3,000 in bets. Deposit plus bonus is the expensive one. Deposit C$100, receive C$100, and 30x now applies to C$200 for a total of C$6,000. Deposit only appears occasionally on free spin offers and is unusual enough to read twice.

Free spins carry their own version. Winnings from spins are typically the base, not the spin value. Fifty spins at C$0.20 that produce C$14 in winnings, with 40x wagering on winnings, means C$560 in bets to release fourteen dollars. That is forty dollars of betting for every dollar in hand, on money you never chose to accept.

Step two: apply game weighting

Contribution rates decide how fast the requirement actually falls. Slots almost always count at 100%: a dollar bet knocks a dollar off. Live blackjack and roulette are frequently 10%, sometimes 5%, occasionally 0%. Video poker and any game with a low house edge tends to sit near the bottom.

A C$3,000 requirement on 100% slots is C$3,000 in bets. The same requirement on 10% weighted roulette is C$30,000. Anyone taking a match bonus intending to play table games should treat the offer as unavailable rather than merely slow.

Some terms also exclude specific high paying slots entirely, usually the ones with jackpot features. That list is worth reading before the deposit, not after.

Step three: price the requirement as expected cost

Here is the number that turns an offer from a gift into a transaction. A slot returning 96% costs roughly four cents in expected losses for every dollar wagered across a long run. Multiply the required betting by that four percent and you get what clearing the bonus is expected to cost you.

A C$100 bonus at 35x on bonus only means C$3,500 in bets, which at four percent carries about C$140 in expected losses. You were handed C$100 and the playthrough is expected to take C$140 back. That bonus is worth less than nothing.

Now run 25x. C$2,500 in bets, roughly C$100 in expected losses against a C$100 bonus. Roughly a wash. Run 20x on bonus only: C$2,000 in bets, about C$80 in expected losses, leaving around C$20 of genuine value. On a typical 96% slot, that is the whole map. Under 25x on bonus only is worth taking, 25x to 30x is close to neutral, and above 30x the bonus is a marketing cost you are paying rather than receiving.

Step four: check the caps that quietly delete the value

Three clauses can wipe out a bonus that survived every calculation above.

The maximum bet while wagering, usually C$5 or C$8. Exceed it once, even accidentally on an autoplay setting, and most terms permit the operator to void the bonus and everything won with it. This is the single most common reason bonus winnings disappear across player accounts.

The maximum cashout, which caps what you may withdraw from bonus winnings at a fixed figure such as C$100 or a multiple of the deposit. Turn C$20 into C$400 under a C$100 cap and C$300 evaporates on withdrawal. Any offer with a cap under C$200 is excluded from the list for exactly this reason.

The expiry window. A C$3,500 requirement over thirty days is a relaxed C$117 a day at your own pace. The same requirement over seven days is C$500 a day, which pushes bet sizes up, drains the bankroll faster and is designed to do precisely that.

Running it on your own twenty dollars

Scale everything to what you are actually depositing. A 100% match up to C$1,000 at 35x, taken with a C$20 deposit, gives you C$20 in bonus funds and C$700 in required betting. At C$0.20 a spin that is 3,500 spins. At three seconds a spin and no breaks, roughly three hours of continuous play, and the four percent edge is expected to cost about C$28 along the way against the C$20 you were given.

Do that sum before every deposit and most welcome offers stop looking like free money. The ones that survive are genuinely good, and they are the ones sitting near the top of the bonus list. If you would rather see it applied end to end at a single site, the worked example walks through deposit, playthrough and withdrawal with real numbers.

And if the sums come out badly everywhere, deposit without a bonus. C$20 with no strings, no cap and no expiry beats C$40 that owes C$1,400 in bets. Low deposit play covers how far a clean small deposit goes.
